I love Hawaii but come on.....
Last week the Honolulu Star Bulletin had an article that featured a new ride at the Hawaiian Waters Water Park called "Da Flowrider", which is basically a wave pool.
Would this be considered an oxy moron? I mean, you are within a minutes walk to some of the best beaches in the world (including world class surfing) and you're going to pay a $35 entrance fee to surf a wave pool? Oh and all of the beaches are public and free. Maybe it's one of those things where people never see what's in their backyard.
And for your viewing pleasure.....a live real time cam on Waikiki Beach. I could watch it for hours. You can literally watch the surfers walk by with their boards and jump in the water.

Aloha from Hawaii...
I just "surfed" Da' Flowrider at the waterpark, and i can tell you it totally makes sense to have here because it is not surfing. It is also not a "wave pool". It's more of a standing wave machine.
I surf and enjoy the free ocean, but I also enjoyed the flowrider immensely! I mean, I own a car and drive everyday, but I also love go cart racing as well. It's similar, yet a very different experience.
The other thing to remember is that the surf in the ocean is based on having good surf available. The waves aren't surfable everyday, even in Hawaii.
I think people are always to quick to pass judgement without actually experiencing or even learning about the subject. But that's the glory of a blog. It can be based on nothing rational or fact-based.
