A Salute to Librarians

The other night my husband and I watched the coolest action/adventure movie ever- The Librarian: Quest For the Spear. It was awesome! Definitely the best (and only) action adventure movie I've ever sat through. It was amazing because the hero (the Librarian) had to use his brains to figure things out. Imagine that. Using the facts in your head to solve the problems that lie before you. Who'd have thunk it.

I've also been hooked lately on the Book Lust series written by Nancy Pearl, the Seattle librarian who started the "One Book, One City" initiative, a project that sprouted all of the book clubs you see everywhere these days. Nancy Pearl is also the original model for Archie McPhee's Librarian Action Figure.

I would like to mention that this is NOT a salute to the mean, old children's librarian I had to deal with in my local library as a kid. She was evil, she had the thickest German accent I'd ever heard and she ran the children's section like the Gestapo. She would refuse me the right to check out books she thought were too old for me. (I was reading at a 12th grade level by the 3rd-4th grade.) I distinctly remember her refusing me a Judy Blume book and when I went upstairs (to the adult section) to tell my dad, he immediately went downstairs to check out the book for me with me right behind him. HA. She was not happy after that. Come to think of it, she was never happy before that, either. In fact, I've run into the lady at her church garage sales since then and she's as mean as ever.

Cool! My very first job was shelving at a library in elementary school! I love my librarians in my neighborhood! I bake them cakes and cookies and pies. I made 'em a huge basket of goodies (which included White Trash) for Christmas.
And i know what you mean about mean ones. There's this guy at the library (of course he's the one in charge) and he's always giving me attitude so i always hand the goodies to the nicer ladies, but i have made a vow to kill him with kindness...it's hard work but someone's gotta do it..lol
